Kolkata Again!!

Time for shopping in Kolkata. After a long lecture from the hotel receptionist Sanjukta, we went to Garirarhat Kolkata Bazar for shopping. From there we went to Sriram Shopping Arcade next to Kolkata New Market. We did most of the shopping from there. We then went back to the hotel for lunch. The hotel staffs were amazing- they gave us a room for free. We rested for a while, took some picture with the hotel staff and then headed back to the airport for our flight back to Dhaka. The flight was delayed by one and half hours, but we watched movies in the airport, so it didn’t matter much. Arrived at Dhaka Airport and to my astonishment, I found out that Dhaka Airport has undergone a massive cosmetic surgery and now looks like a mini version of Dubai Airport!! I was really glad!!

Although the movie is completely meaningless, it does bring a lot of laughter. Good movie to kill idle time. The possibilities and limitations for transferring Japanese lean production work practices to British institutional environment

Introduction: ‘Lean production system’ is a very popular generic mass production management system. It is also known as ‘Toyota Production System’. Lean system develops highly responsive systems whereby companies produce “goods and services exactly when they are needed: not before they are needed so that they wait as inventory, nor after they are needed so that it is the customers who have to wait”. (Slack, 2001) It is based on three key principles, eliminate waste, involving everyone and continuous improvement. The lean system was developed by Taiichi Ohno at Toyota in the 1950s. Taiichi was a manufacturing manager and was facing difficulties because of poor supply conditions. He couldn’t plan ahead as he couldn’t predict the supply of raw materials.
